Writing letters is difficult. Much more difficult than speaking. Often, a person who has no trouble carrying on a conversation gets lost in front of a sheet of paper. Written expression of thoughts is almost a game of blindfolds, where... controlling the interlocutor as one would in a face-to-face interaction is impossible. Moreover, writing in a foreign language is twice as hard: not knowing the requirements and norms of correspondence in the country where the recipient is located can lead to complications in relationships.
