The Interpretation of Dreams

The fundamental work "The Interpretation of Dreams" ("Die Traumdeutung") by the famous Austrian psychologist and psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud (1856–1939), published in 1900, is his first major monograph. Along with the works "The Psychopathology of Everyday Life" (1901) and "Jokes and... Their Relation to the Unconscious" (1905), "The Interpretation of Dreams" forms a kind of trilogy illustrating the manifestations of the unconscious in people's everyday lives. The author claims: "The interpretation of dreams is the Via Regia to the knowledge of the unconscious, the most definite foundation of psychoanalysis and the field in which every researcher acquires their conviction and education. When I am asked how one can become a psychoanalyst, I always reply: by studying one's own dreams."
