At the end of the 19th century, Paris transformed – its streets were filled with the enchanting light of electric lanterns. The gaming experience... for board strategy enthusiasts will also never be the same after a game of Paris. City of Lights, which made it to the TOP-30 best abstract games according to the BoardGameGeek website. Players will build urban districts, fighting for every square inch of lit pavement.
This colorful box with the expansion will introduce you to new attractions of the French capital and provide more than one captivating game night. The set includes eight new action postcards with stunning illustrations and a much-anticipated scorekeeping notebook.

If you haven't played the base version yet, we recommend you quickly correct this little oversight and enjoy the masterpiece of game design by José Antonio Abascal. Paris. City of Lights – a conflicting duel strategy that turns tense competition into a pleasant stroll through the streets of a European city. The simple core rules remain the same. The game consists of two phases: in the first, you will lay down pavement tiles and gather buildings into your supply, and in the second – build these buildings, light them with lanterns and play special actions from the postcards.
Under the lid of the box with the small expansion Paris. Eiffel we are greeted by a rules booklet – a coveted, freshly printed edition of the newspaper "Little Parisian". The front page features an article about the genius of engineering, Eiffel, and his creation – the 300-meter tower, which left no one indifferent. Artists and writers protested against the "useless and monstrous tower", tourists made it the most photographed building in the world, and players will surely compete for the right to personally place it on the board.
You'll also find eight action postcards that can be mixed with cards from the base game to achieve even more balance and options to earn victory points in this intricate and elegant city-building puzzle. For instance, the Arc de Triomphe is not considered a building, but awards extra points when determining the largest district, while the Eiffel Tower increases points for lanterns and empty pavement squares. A compact and convenient notebook will help keep track of construction results at the end of the game, to account for all bonuses from attractions and penalties for unlit buildings.
In 1889, the World Exposition takes place in Paris. The City of Lights continues to shine and delight its residents and visitors with beautiful sights. Life is bustling, crowds of tourists flood the squares and parks, lining up in front of the Louvre to see the mysterious smile of the Mona Lisa. Experience a virtual tour during the game, as this is arguably one of the most thematic abstract games! No, we haven't lost our heads over the views of Paris, like the artists in Montmartre, but we are ready to sing its praises alongside the designer Oriol Hernández, who designed both boxes.
Three-dimensional tokens of attractions, vibrant artistic images of monuments on the postcards inspire you to plan a new travel route or peek into an encyclopedia. For example, did you know that gargoyles – are not just mythological stone creatures but also quite practical elements of Gothic architecture, serving as water spouts? Or that the majestic ancient Egyptian obelisk on the Place de la Concorde was brought to Paris in 1829 as a gift and weighs 220 tons! You will see these on the postcards, and then learn (if, of course, you wish) how the impoverished districts in the city center transformed, what the underground labyrinths of the catacombs conceal, and other facts about the City of Lights. However, even without these cultural references and complex historical dates, the game remains an engaging duel strategy with original ideas that set it apart from similar creations.
