After repelling the attack of the Hatmakers, the heroes finally leave the dungeon of Romonon. On the surface, they are met by a knight of the Inquisition named Liulusi. She demands that all participants in the incident immediately head to the Citadel.

While Kiflil recovers from his injury and the other adults discuss what happened, the apprentices meet Lord Bel'darut – the Sage of the Teachings, who offers the girls a chance to retake the failed exam, all together. Now Koko and her friends must come up with a way to impress one of the most powerful wizards in the world with their own magic!
