Plague Dogs

Richard Adams conquered the world with his first book "Watership Down." This novel, initially rejected by all major publishers, became beloved by millions of readers worldwide, was adapted into film twice, and holds a worthy place alongside "The Little Prince"... by A. Saint-Exupéry, "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" by R. Bach, "Dandelion Wine" by R. Bradbury, and "Flowers for Algernon" by D. Keyes. "Plague Dogs" was also adapted into film—in 1982 by Martin Rosen, who had recently brought "Watership Down" to the screen; one of the main roles in the film, known in Russian as "Desperate Dogs," was played by Michael Hurt. From a research center located in the heart of the picturesque Lake District, two friends escape—a fox terrier named Snagger and a large shaggy black mutt named Rauf. Leaving behind the lab where they underwent cruel experiments, Snagger and Rauf race towards freedom—but the surrounding world harbors new dangers and challenges… The translation was done by Maria Semyonova—the author of the legendary "Wolfhound," who was at the origins of the "Slavic fantasy" genre. "If after Adams only one book remains, let it be 'Plague Dogs'" (Observer).
