In this famous work, Erich Fromm addresses the theme of the Bible and especially the intellectual and ethical confrontation between the Old and New Testaments. The concepts of the divine and human, sin and redemption are interpreted by the great philosopher from humanistic and materialistic perspectives, while in the Scriptures he primarily examines the evolution of human views on religion – from the slave worship of a higher power and clan narrowness to free will, personal liberation, and national unity.
