More than a hundred years have passed since the first publication of the novel "Vampires" by the mysterious Baron Olshery (B. Olshery), and now we can confidently assert that this pseudonym belonged to Ekaterina Nikolaevna Khomze (1861-1916). For her - the wife of a hereditary honorary citizen and tea merchant, suffering from a serious illness - literary pursuits became a saving expression of the will to live, a form of meditation, a way to entertain herself and her loved ones.

On the pages of the most famous fantastical opus by B. Olshery, it is told how the gloomy legends that envelop the ancient castle of Dracula become a reality when the overseas millionaire Harry Kardi inherits the castle and begins to lead a luxurious high-society life. Will he, with the help of his adventurous friends, be able to overcome the awakened evil?

For this publication, the text of the first edition of the novel has been cleansed of typographical, semantic, and spelling errors by literary scholar D. R. Kobozev, with the intention of presenting this literary monument to readers in the form envisioned by its author for the first time.
