Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm are well-known researchers of German folk culture and collectors of local folklore. The legends, tales, and traditions left by the brothers remain popular with readers to this day: they are staged on theater stages, adapted for... film, and even turned into games. The fairy tales we remember from childhood are actually not as happy and kind — in "The Frog Princess," the sisters cut off their own feet to fit into the glass slipper, Hansel and Gretel want to kill their own parents, and in "Little Red Riding Hood," the girl and the hunter cut open the wolf's belly and kill him… The original works contain terrifying stories. Nevertheless, interesting plots, wise thoughts, and beloved characters draw us back to the texts again and again. The edition is supplemented with engravings and illustrations from the 19th century.
