The idea of "The Titan" arose with Theodore Dreiser back in 1912. Considering the book extraordinarily significant and personal, the author could not achieve the desired perfection. Time and again rewriting the text, he worked on the manuscript almost until... his death. Ultimately, the novel was published only in 1946, a few months after the writer's passing. Bank treasurer Solon Barnes was raised in a Quaker family – representatives of a radical Protestant movement. Adopting the stern religious views of his father, Solon tries to raise his own children with similar strictness. However, the new generation no longer wishes to live by the precepts of their ancestors, preferring to seek their own path in life.
