The Form of Time. Notes on the History of Things

The outstanding art historian George Kubler (1912–1996), author of numerous works on pre-Columbian American culture, dedicated his book "The Form of Time" (1962), his only theoretical work, to the most fundamental foundations of art history - the principles according to which it distinguishes its subject from the subjects of other disciplines, and also limits and systematizes its field of study in time and space. Filled with a polemical charge directed against the biographical-iconographic approach to the history of art, reducing it to the history of artists and subjects, Kubler's book was enthusiastically received by avant-garde artists of the 1960s and had a significant impact on both art theory and its practice. "The Form of Time" is being translated into Russian for the first time.
