Computer Networks. Principles, Technologies, Protocols: Jubilee Edition, Revised and Corrected

This edition is special in a sense – it has been exactly 20 years since the book was first published. 20 years is not a short period; during this time, the children of our first readers have grown up and... may have become interested in computer networks. And perhaps they will hold the 6th edition of the book «Computer Networks. Principles, Technologies, Protocols» in their hands. This book is significantly different from the one their parents read. Much of what interested readers in the late 90s – for example, the 4-hub rule, the agreement of IP and IPX networks, or the comparison of 100VG-AnyLAN and FDDI technologies – is no longer mentioned in the latest editions. Over 20 years, many technologies have gone through a complete cycle from trendy term and widespread recognition to almost complete oblivion. Each new edition of the book has reflected, to a greater or lesser extent, the changes in the landscape of network technologies.
This edition is no exception – it has been significantly revised, with about a third of the material presenting either completely new information or a substantially revised presentation of topics. For example, a new section «Wireless Networks» has been added, and the section dedicated to the technologies of primary networks SDH, OTN, and DWDM has been completely revised.

The book has been translated into English, Spanish, Chinese, and Portuguese.

The edition is intended for students, graduate students, and technical specialists who would like to gain basic knowledge about the principles of building computer networks, understand the features of traditional and prospective technologies of local and global networks, and study methods for creating large composite networks and managing such networks.
