In all of his works, even in smaller forms, Dostoevsky seeks the answer to the question he pondered throughout his life: where does the boundary between good and evil lie - in the heart of an individual and of society... as a whole? Although the stories "The Crocodile," "A Vile Anecdote," and "The Peasant Marey" seem to be in the shadow of the "great pentateuch," it is precisely in them that this most important problem of Dostoevsky's work is developed. A special place is occupied by one of his last works - the remarkably touching story "Gentle," where the writer explores the relationship between a tyrant and a victim through the example of an ordinary family.
