Pandemic is considered one of the best cooperative games by many experts. Players in Pandemic are specialists from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention based in Atlanta, who monitor viral outbreaks around the world. The goal of the players is to combine their efforts and, working as a cohesive team of diverse specialists, prevent the widespread outbreak of four of the most insidious diseases. Containing the infection can only be achieved through simultaneous sanitation in infected cities, as well as painstaking work in laboratories to create vaccines against these viruses.

Players will need to develop a strategy using the strengths of different CDC specialists before the diseases take over the world. For example, the Operations Expert can build research stations, which allow studying diseases and seeking vaccines against them. And the Scientist only needs four cards of a specific disease to cure it, instead of the required five. However, the diseases spread quickly, and time is against you, so the team must contain the infection in the infected zones while the vaccines are still in development. If just one disease gets out of control, the players lose. If they manage to cure all four diseases, they win.

The game board represents the Earth with major cities marked on it. On each turn, a player can perform any four actions from the following list: moving, treating a city, researching a vaccine, and building stations. The game uses cards that allow movement; by collecting them according to certain rules, players can create vaccines against the viruses.
