My Queen

God of war. Genius. Beacon. That is what I definitely am not, as those around me never cease to repeat. I have to admit: I am strange. I don't think so myself, but others do — yes.

Summer of 1965. Shell runs away from home at the gas station where he has lived since birth. He wants to become a man. For on the plateau looming over the Assa valley, nothing heroic happens; only silence and the aromas of herbs reign here. Suddenly, as if from nowhere, a girl with violet eyes appears. With her, the black-and-white world becomes colorful. In Vivian's universe, Shell no longer feels different. He unconditionally obeys her, his queen, not noticing where this devotion leads.

"My Queen" is an ode to youth, love, and freedom. Jean-Baptiste Andrea's heroes seek harmony in a world that is turned upside down, and the author gives us a chance to find it together with them.


About the author:

Jean-Baptiste Andrea is a French director, screenwriter, and writer. He was born in 1971 in the town of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, spent his childhood and youth in Cannes, where he later shot his first short films. He then moved to Paris and received a higher education in political science and economics.

From 2003 to 2013, as a director, he released four feature films, including "Dead End" (2003), "Big Nothing" (2006) with David Schwimmer and Simon Pegg, as well as "The Brotherhood of Tears" (La Confrérie des larmes, 2013), starring Jérémie Renier and Audrey Fleurot.

"My Queen," Andrea's debut novel, was published in 2017 and was honored with twelve awards,
including the Prix Envoyé par La Poste (2017) and the Prix Alain-Fournier (2018).
