The King of England Edward I Longshanks from the Plantagenet dynasty, who ruled from 1272 to 1307, entered history as one of the most powerful rulers of medieval Europe, strengthening the authority and glory of the English monarchy. He succeeded in uniting Wales and Scotland with England, curbing the caprices of great feudal lords, and enacting new laws that protected the rights of all citizens of the kingdom. The life and deeds of Edward I, nicknamed "the flower of chivalry" and "the hammer of the Scots," are described in his first Russian-language biography created by historian Vadim Ustinov based on a wide range of sources.
