The Betrayed Revolution

The Betrayed Revolution» — one of the most famous works of Trotsky, the author himself even called this book «the main work of his life». Written during forced seclusion in Norway, the book is dedicated to the analysis of the Soviet political regime and the forecast of its further development. Unabashed in his formulations, Trotsky in a fierce and categorical manner settles scores with his main opponent I. V. Stalin and states that «the leaden backside of bureaucracy outweighed the head of the revolution», turning the country into a «deformed workers' state». The book, even during the author's lifetime, was translated into several foreign languages and reprinted many times, but in the USSR «The Betrayed Revolution» was banned and appeared in Russian for the first time only in 1991, a few months before the collapse of the country.
