The publisher had one condition - “to identify all the geographical, geological, physical and astronomical knowledge accumulated by modern science, and retell them in an entertaining and picturesque form.” Jules Verne readily agreed. Thus began a series of his works, united under the general title “Extraordinary Journeys.” The novel “The Floating Island” is included in it, because in it the writer introduces his readers to the geography of several archipelagos in the Pacific Ocean and the features of life on islands lost in the vast expanses of water. However, Jules Verne does not change his technique - this information is interspersed in his story about the adventures of his heroes. This time, the writer’s imagination created a huge island-ship, which became a home for American billionaires and plows the ocean.
