The Art of the Renaissance. Italy. 16th Century

The books of Petersburg art critic Alexander Viktorovich Stepanov, dedicated to the art of the Renaissance, are invariably loved by readers. By placing the works of the celebrated masters of the Renaissance in a broad historical and cultural context, the author finds new, unexpected angles for each of them, thanks to which works that have held the status of canonical for many centuries suddenly acquire the chance to be seen and reinterpreted anew.
In the book dedicated to the art of Italy in the 16th century, the creativity of the true titans of the Renaissance - Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo, Titian, and others - is examined, as well as the history of its perception up to the 20th century.
A.V. Stepanov's book possesses versatility in the best sense of the word: while the dynamic, engaging narrative will be interesting to the broadest audience, the academic depth of the research places it alongside the works of the world's leading specialists in the field of Renaissance art.
