The Poem of the Pendulum. Essay

This book includes essays by Joseph Brodsky, in which he reflects on the past and present of poetry from antiquity to our days, its role in the life of a person and society, and the nature of creativity. They are dedicated to such poets as Horace, Dante Alighieri, Thomas Hardy, Konstantinos Kavafis, Rainer Maria Rilke, Robert Frost, Wystan Hugh Auden, Derek Walcott. The essays were written in English and included in the author's collections «Less Than One» («Меньше единицы», 1986) and «On Grief and Reason» («О скорби и разуме», 1995), and are published in translation into Russian language.
