Contemporaries called Marcus Aurelius the righteous man on the throne, unlike whom there had never been. The emperor was filled with the deepest love for people, humility, kindness, and magnanimity. Despite the fact that he always had to be in... the limelight, conduct state affairs, and participate in military campaigns, he often sought solitude, finding it within himself. Thus was born the book of reflections "Alone with Yourself," which he wrote throughout his life. This is the story of his soul: reflections, individual thoughts, advice to future generations. An attempt to understand oneself, the essence of human life. To this day, the themes of good and evil, the meaning of existence and the inevitability of death, human behavior and their relationships, touched upon in the book, remain relevant, and the reader's interest in this monument of Ancient Roman literature is unchanged.
