Brotigan's Novels (set of 3 books: «Lawnkin's Revenge», «The Hocklyn Beast» and «Willard and His Bowling Alley Prizes»).
Richard Brotigan (1935—1984) — an American novelist and poet, a significant figure of the counterculture of the 1960s-70s, who became an inspiration for...
many writers from Erlend Loe and Christopher Moore to Haruki Murakami and Sarah Hall.
The set includes the novels:
The first novel — «General of the Confederacy from Big Sur», about a simple guy meeting a drifter, who takes pride in his ancestor, allegedly a general of the Confederacy; «Dreams of Babylon» — a dark comedy set in 1942 in San Francisco; and «The Hocklyn Beast» — a gothic western about unfortunate hired killers, given the order to find a mysterious beast terrorizing the Wild West.
The short story collection «Lawnkin's Revenge» from 1971, paradoxical and vivid, consisting of both complete stories and sketches; a historical novel «Abortion» about a public library in California full of romantic possibilities, which only accepts unpublished manuscripts; and the novella «So the Wind Doesn’t Blow It All Away» about one fatal mistake, when instead of a hamburger, bullets for a gun were bought.
The last published novel «An Unhappy Woman», which is in the form of a travel diary and in content — a deep inner monologue, as well as the novel «Willard and His Bowling Alley Prizes» about a chain of absurd events and comic situations faced by the characters, and about the disconnect between them.
