«Alone with Oneself. Reflections» — a collection of aphoristic thoughts by Marcus Aurelius, written in Koine Greek in the 70s of the 2nd century during the war on the Danube border. It enjoyed undeniable success in late antiquity and was revived in European philosophical circles in the 16th century. These personal writings reflect the emperor's steadfast desire not only to be guided in his worldview by Stoic teachings but also to further develop it, naming reason, not the soul, as the leading principle in man, which must be brought into harmony with the nature of the whole, thereby achieving equanimity.
