Fragments of the Speech of the Lover

“Fragments of the Speech of the Lover” made Roland Barthes famous: after the release of this book in 1977, the semiologist theoretician was perceived as a new pop star. He was invited to talk shows alongside Françoise Sagan and Anna... Golan (co-author of the novels about "Angelique"), interviews with him appeared in mass magazines such as Playboy (which Barthes once mocked in his book “Mythologies”) and Elle. The reason for this success lies in the obvious closeness of the “Fragments” to a work of art with its own heroes and plot. Thus, the book by a critic and theoretician about the speech of lovers itself becomes an example and a model of romantic speech.
This edition is supplemented with materials from Roland Barthes' seminars at the École pratique des hautes études (Paris), published in 2007 under the title "Love Speech".
