Cinema

Gilles Deleuze, according to the testimony of one of his contemporaries, was a genuine cinephile. «He understood earlier and better than us that in some sense society itself is Cinema». Deleuze not only developed the culture of film viewing but... also sought to understand what role philosophy can play in understanding cinema and what, conversely, cinema irrevocably changed in philosophy. He was one of the few who, thinking about cinema, also tried to think with its help. Perhaps no philosopher has written about cinema so thoroughly from the perspective of serious philosophy, while not simply turning cinema into a mere object of study, which one can look at from the outside.
