Defeat

«Defeat» by Alexander Fadeev — one of the most famous novels dedicated to the Civil War. It was written shortly after its end and is largely autobiographical: between 1919 and 1921, the future writer, who was then a red commissar,... participated in military actions in the Far East. This is the story of the defeat and death of a partisan detachment, told vividly and truthfully. Initially perceived ambiguously, later the novel was included in the school curriculum and has undergone hundreds of reprints. During the Soviet era, «Defeat» was interpreted as a work about the moral victory of the communist idea. However, the novel about the Civil War, shown in all its deep contradictions and drama, managed to outlive its time and remain a universally recognized classic of domestic literature. The publication also included stories and tales by A. Fadeev: «Flood», «Birth of the Amgun Regiment», «Earthquake», and «On Poverty and Wealth».
