Explanatory Dictionary of the Russian Language

In the famous dictionary of Vladimir Ivanovich Dal, the lexicon of the Russian language is presented in all its diversity. Many entries contain proverbs, sayings, and excerpts from folk songs as examples. This edition is a condensed version of the... dictionary, which in its full form contains more than 200,000 words, not counting examples of usage and samples of oral folk creativity. This book includes words that can be found in Russian classical literature; familiar words that had different meanings in Dal's time; as well as part of the lexicon describing historical realities. The text is reproduced in modern orthography, but with the main features of the author's punctuation retained. The edition is intended for everyone interested in the history of the Russian language.
