Ticket to Ride – a game about railroads.
A true railroad magnate must not only strive to create and strengthen their empire, but also take care of their competitors. It is essential to lay the longest and most efficient routes, while...
also cutting opponents off from important transport hubs. The key is to maintain a balance between greed and moderation: long tiring trips certainly bring profit, but many are willing to spend seriously for a quick arrival at the desired destination…
How to play?
At the beginning, each player receives a route card indicating two cities located at different ends of the map. This card must be kept secret! The goal is to build a railroad between the specified points. To achieve this grand plan, players are dealt "train" cards of different colors and wild cards depicting locomotives each turn, and they are also allowed to take additional route cards and lay down train cards on the game board to earn victory points. A route can be laid of any possible length as long as there are enough cards of one color and opponents are not obstructing you.
When one player's trains run low, the game is declared finished. All players reveal their hidden routes and count the earned points. If the mission stated on the route card is completed, points are added; if failed, they are deducted. And, importantly, the player who laid the longest route receives an additional ten points!
The game's author, Alan Moon, wrote: "The rules of the game are simple enough to fit on a train ticket – each turn you either draw new cards, claim a route, or take new tickets. The tension in the game arises as players must balance their greed – the desire to obtain new cards with the fear of giving key sections of track to their opponent."
Ticket to Ride continues the tradition of large-format board games from Days of Wonder: magnificent illustrations, quality components – a huge map of North America, two hundred train cars, colorful cards. Globally, Ticket to Ride is recognized as one of the best games for "initiating" newcomers – introducing new players to the world of board games. TtR is easy to learn, beautiful, rich, and endlessly captivating. Try to lay your route in the world of Ticket to Ride!
