Humorous Stories

Anton Chekhov took his first steps in Russian literature as an author of humorous stories under pseudonyms, for example, Antosha Chekhonte. His literary debut took place in the St. Petersburg magazine «Strekoza» with stories in the genre of parody.
The premiere... collection of the writer's stories was prepared for publication but never saw the light of day... Chekhov wrote: «In Moscow, there are publishers-printers, but in Moscow, the censorship will not allow the book, for all my selected stories undermine the foundations according to Moscow standards.» However, the sparkling, witty humor of Anton Chekhov fuels a positive attitude towards human nature, despite the flaws and misconceptions inherent to all of us.
Chekhov's laughter, sometimes cheerful, sometimes sad, and sometimes somewhat satirical, is aimed at cleansing human nature of vices, and therefore uplifts it.
