Retired Emergency Situations officer Andrei Sotnikov is transported to the early 13th century, merging in consciousness and body with his ancient ancestor, a retired centurion of the princely watch regiment and his namesake Andrei. For his valiant service, that centurion... was granted an estate, where he lives with his younger son Mitya in a restored mansion. Andrei has a choice: to live peacefully, knowing that the horde will not reach him, or to plunge headfirst into the tumultuous events of the 13th century, helping his ancestors defend their land from attacks from the southeastern steppes as well as from numerous western enemies.
