People of the Night

Nicolas Hansard is a young history professor, an expert on the works of Christopher Marlowe. In his free time from teaching, he engages in research for the White Group, a mysterious organization that Hansard believes is connected to foreign intelligence.... When his mentor Allan Berenson dies, supposedly of a heart attack, everything around him begins to spiral out of control. The death of his colleague leaves Hansard unsettled, and the historian decides to put an end to the business of spies, the “people of the night.” However, he is tempted by a purely professional interest: the White Group commissions Hansard to conduct an examination of a recently discovered Marlowe play. Apparently, he himself was a spy working for Queen Elizabeth I. Hansard sincerely believes that the case of the lost play from 400 years ago will help him escape reality... And he is mistaken.
