Rules of Politeness

The last evening of 1937. Katie Content and her friend Eve visit a second-rate jazz bar in Greenwich Village to celebrate New Year's Eve. While the girls try to divide the three dollars they have left, a charming young banker occupies the neighboring table. Tinker Gray, that’s his name, treats the girls to a cocktail and engages in light, non-binding conversation. This chance encounter leads Katie into the upper circles of New York society, where she will have nothing to rely on but her wit and her own composure.
