Kalevala

«Kalevala» — a literary image of beautiful Finland, its pride and national treasure. Finnish doctor and linguist Elias Lönnrot collected epic songs, spells and proverbs of Finns, Karelians and Veps and created a literary work based on them, unique in its significance.
Fifty rune-songs of the epic, like beads, are strung on a single narrative thread — the confrontation between the bright land of Kalevala and the dark, hostile Pohjola. God-like fairy tale heroes from legends acquired vivid traits in Lönnrot's version and became similar to humans. The pages of «Kalevala» breathe antiquity and reveal to us the richest cultural heritage with a centuries-old history that reflects the ideas, way of life and traditional beliefs of the Finno-Ugric peoples.
