Walpurgisnacht

Gustav Meyrink (1868–1932) — an Austrian expressionist writer. He worked in the genre of «black romanticism», continuing the traditions of such writers as Edgar Poe, Charles Baudelaire, Oscar Wilde.
The action of the novel «Walpurgis Night» (1917) unfolds in the Czech... Republic. Prague becomes the site of clashes between German bureaucrats, besieged in an ancient castle over the Vltava River, and Czech revolutionaries who have taken the city below. History, myth, and political reality intertwine in the episode when the rebels storm the castle to crown the poor violinist, «Emperor of the World».
