The writer, poet, playwright, and politician, Gabriele D'Annunzio was incredibly popular in Italy in the early twentieth century. His works shocked public morality and literally «exploded» the literary world of Europe.

He does not accept the norms and values accepted in society. Tullio has «agreed» with his wife on an open relationship and is infatuated with another woman. Everything changes when the hero realizes that his wife can also be of interest to someone else…
The plot of «The Innocent» served as the basis for the famous film by Luchino Visconti, which the master himself considered his best work.
