Once upon a time at the inn «Admiral Benbow», owned by Jim Hawkins' mother, the main character of the novel, a new guest appeared — a former sailor named Bill Bones. He was a gloomy, taciturn man whom the other inn guests and the owners were wary of. Strange visitors began to come to him. The first, also a sailor, nicknamed «Black Dog», wanted something from Bill, they quarreled and it ended in a knife fight. Later, a terrible blind beggar appeared, who handed him the «black spot» — a dire warning to pirates who break the unwritten laws of their world. Bill Bones decides to hastily leave his familiar place, but suddenly dies of a stroke. Jim and his mother, whom Bill owed a considerable amount for lodging, discover money and a packet of papers among his belongings, which reveal that Bones was the first mate on the ship of the infamous pirate Flint and owned a map of the place where the treasures are stored…
