The works of A. S. Pushkin — the tragedy "Feast during the Plague" and the poem "Hero" — were written in the autumn of 1830, when the cholera pandemic swept through Europe and Russia, which partly explains the eschatological perspective... of both texts. The "unsolvable contradictions" at the end of both works have sparked a variety of interpretations, sometimes conflicting. Included in the appendices is an article by the scientific director of the Vyach. Ivanov Research Center in Rome, Andrei Shishkin, which reveals the interconnection of these Pushkin texts and attempts their interpretation. A series of illustrations by G. A. V. Traugot was created specifically for our edition in 2021.
