Like the mountain dwarves from legends, for centuries the people who call themselves the caste of the Reds toil in the depths. At an incredible cost of suffering, they extract helium-3, hoping to accumulate enough to one day leave the Martian burrows, encircle the planet with a shell of air and water, and create conditions for human existence on the surface. And suddenly it turns out that Mars has already been terraformed; it was done by the caste of the Golds, who consider themselves masters while relegating the Reds to the role of slaves. To liberate the oppressed people and achieve justice, the organization of the Sons of Ares sends a young miner, Darrow, to the surface, modifying him to the extent that he is indistinguishable from his elite peers.
