Zinaida Gippius (1869-1945) - "Madonna of Decadence", poetess, writer, critic, ideologist of Russian symbolism. In the 1910s, she conceived a trilogy of novels that could reflect her philosophical, moral, and political views. Thus, in 1911, the socio-political novel "Damn Puppet"... was published, which was received ambiguously by critics and the public. The main character, Yuri Dvoekurov, Yurulia, is a hero of non-being, a damn puppet, a man without God, who does not worry about tomorrow. The life story unfolds in the first, fateful decade of the 20th century. Yurulia is beautiful in his "dead beauty"; Gippius does not endorse his way of life but cannot take her eyes off him. This is a novel about the problems of religion in the revolution, spirituality and atheism, the further development of Russia, individualism, the unification of the intelligentsia and the people, the driving forces of the revolution.
