Elena Guro (1877-1913) - a radiant poetess, artist, and theorist of futurism. In 1909, her first book of stories, poems, and plays "Mechanics" was published, and in 1914, after Elena's death, her diary entries "Heavenly Camels" were released. These two...
cycles are included in our collection.
Guro loved the wind, the forest, camels, and freedom the most. Her text is light and joyful, consisting of small sketches of quiet everyday life, her thoughts, her sorrows, and mystical prophecies of a terrifying future. Guro's style is rooted in a unique combination of symbolism, impressionism, and avant-garde, with harmony and the divinity of nature always at the forefront. Khodasevich calls her the most "authentic," contrasting her with all the avant-gardists: "‘O, your heart, believing in everything, is rich with a full cup!’ - at least with this phrase, she forever separates herself from those with whom she was only brought closer by literary age and common lack of recognition."
