In 1906-1907, the life of the writer Leonid Andreyev was rich and complicated. Andreyev was already famous and under the protection of M. Gorky, returning to Russia from a long journey through Europe. His first beloved wife had died, Andreyev... drank a lot, and he sensed the most dreadful years in the history of his homeland. Thus, the prose of these years is so diverse: from harsh naturalism (the story "Darkness") to a mystical escape from emptiness (the novella "Judas Iscariot"). This collection also includes other works from this period: "Eleazar" and "From the story that will never be finished".
