1953. Kilian and his brother Hakobo leave their hometown of Huesca and set off for the distant, unknown, and exotic island of Fernando Po. There they are awaited by their father, the owner of the Sampaka plantation, where one of... the best cocoa beans in the world is grown and roasted. On these evergreen and warm shores, the brothers discover the life of a colony, so unlike the dull and gray Spain; they share the hard work on the plantation; study the cultural differences and similarities between the newcomers and the indigenous people; and experience friendship, passion, love, and hate. But one of the brothers crosses a forbidden line and hopelessly falls in love with a native woman. Their love and the complicated relationships between the colonists and the islanders change the brothers' relationship and the course of their lives, becoming the source of a mystery that will affect even future generations. 2003.
