Sister Outsider

«Sister Outsider» by Audre Lorde is one of the foundational texts of Black and intersectional feminism. The fifteen essays and speeches included in this collection are devoted to how to survive in the context of multiple oppressions, how to see... the differences between people not as a threat, but as a creative force, how to act against despair and fear. Lorde takes her experience as a starting point — the experience of a Black woman, a lesbian, a mother, someone who does not fit into the «mythical norm» — and formulates her truth as an antidote to the distortions produced by sexism, racism, and other forms of oppression. Combining poetic expressiveness with activist passion, she creates a theory for living — a tool designed to help us confront hate and violence, to unite despite differences, and to work together for a more humane future for all.
