Pale Horse. Black Horse: Stories

The book includes two stories by Boris Savinkov — «Pale Horse» (1909) and «Black Horse» (1923). In the story «Pale Horse», largely autobiographical, the author narrates the activities of a group of terrorists preparing to assassinate prominent political figures. This... work reflects Savinkov's disillusionment with terrorist struggle. «Black Horse» continues the themes of the first story: the author contemplates the outcomes of the Civil War and demonstrates the futility of the White movement. The narrative is presented in the first person, in the form of the hero's personal diary. Both works contain numerous philosophical reflections on religion, ethics, psychology, and the significance of political struggle.
