The bridge over the Thames in central London was built between 1886 and 1894 by five different companies and more than 400 workers. Its height is 65 meters, and its length is 244 meters. The bridge was opened on June 30, 1894, by the Prince of Wales, Edward (the future King Edward VII). Initially, the bridge was brown.

The current color of the bridge dates back to 1977 when it was painted red, white, and blue in honor of the Queen's Silver Jubilee.
