My Chronicle. Memories

Nadezhda Alexandrovna Teffi (1872-1952) - the "queen of Russian humor", author of literary parodies, feuilletons, poems, a mysterious and intelligent woman who spent her life creating her autobiographical legend, her image in literature. She was so popular that perfumes and... candies were named after her. Everyone admired her, from Nicholas II to Lenin.
Teffi survived three revolutions, two world wars, witnessed the horrors of the 20th century, but maintained a sensitive heart, an ability to laugh in desperate situations. After leaving Russia, Teffi wrote her memories - the story of her farewell to her homeland, which stretched over a year and a half.
The book also includes autobiographical feuilletons "My Pseudonym", "First Visit to the Editorial Office" and a collection of memoir essays "My Chronicle" about well-known (Balmont, Averchenko, Rasputin, Repin) and lesser-known (Fondaminsky, Panteleimonov) people of that time, with whom Teffi was acquainted and who played an important role in the fate of Russia or in the life of the writer herself. With a smile and tact, she describes each one, trying to understand, to see the living soul.
