Anthony Burgess (1917-1993) was an English writer, literary critic, composer, translator, and journalist. Until the late 1950s, he worked as a teacher, studied music theory, and devoted little time to writing. The scandalously famous debut novel A Clockwork Orange (1962) brought the author worldwide fame. A surge in popularity awaited the writer after the adaptation of the work by Stanley Kubrick in 1971. The narrative of the novel revolves around the story of Alex – a teenager, the leader of one of London’s youth gangs in 1962, who finds pleasure in murder, robbery, and violence.
