The Rational Animal. Man on the Edge of Evolution

The successes of Homo sapiens in competitive struggles are undeniable. Its aggressiveness, exceptional inventiveness, and astonishing adaptability have always been beyond praise. After all, this is almost the only biological species (among large vertebrates) that has managed to occupy all... the ecological niches on the planet. Marching cheerfully with an affirmative song across six continents of our small globe, Homo sapiens left its cousins literally no chance. It seems that nature did not manage to properly polish the human race, releasing into the world an unrefined product, a raw outcome, a kind of semi-finished product. The trouble is that humans evolved too quickly. The unhurried nature simply did not have enough time to properly shape its latest offspring. Accustomed to acting by trial and error, it naively believed that eternity lay ahead. How this happened and what to do about it we will explore in this book.
