Eugene Onegin

«Eugene Onegin» — the most famous and significant work of A. S. Pushkin, the pinnacle of Russian poetry and the subject of numerous studies. Pushkin began the novel in May 1823 and only finished it in the autumn of 1831, when «Onegin's Letter to Tatyana» was written. In the autumn of 1823, the poet informed his friends: «I am now writing not a novel, but a novel in verse — a devilish difference...» Entertaining, light, based on a love story conveyed in a manner of a confidential conversation between the author and the reader, — and at the same time full of insurmountable paradoxes and mysteries, Pushkin's novel attracts new generations of readers. This edition includes a commentary on the novel by the famous philologist Yu. M. Lotman. The scholar shows the internally complex, contradictory structure of the novel «Eugene Onegin», hidden behind the external ease and clarity of Pushkin's lines. The text of the novel is published with illustrations by the outstanding graphic artist N. V. Kuzmin.
