In the distant year of 1898, the great Russian writer Nikolai Georgievich Garin-Mikhailovsky made an astonishing journey through the Far East. Traveling through the provinces of Korea, he recorded tales that later became a golden fund of Korean folklore and are still considered classics of fairy tale epic in Korea to this day.
The Russian writer preserved for the history of Korean culture unique fairy tale plots passed down from mouth to mouth, from generation to generation. These works are filled with the humor, kindness, understanding, forgiveness, and astonishing nobility of the Korean people.
The book contains more than sixty tales, illustrated by the works of Korean artists from the 17th to 19th centuries, including such great masters as Kim Jun Gyn, Nam Il Ho, Baek Eun Bae, Kim Hong Do, and Shin Yun Bok.
