After an unsuccessful attempt to rescue Jan Smuga from the hands of the Campa Indians, Tomek and his companions hurriedly prepare a new rescue expedition. Sacrificing his freedom and remaining in the Indian settlement for the sake of his friends' escape, Smuga and Captain Nowicki promised the young man to meet him in a couple of months near the northern border of Bolivia. Yet, it seems that fate itself is against their reunion: first, the uprising of the Campa in Montaña forced Vil'novskii Jr. and the other members of the group to give up the short route, and then the revolution in Bolivia complicated their plans. To reach the agreed place as quickly as possible, Tomek decides to lead the expedition through Gran Chaco — a mysterious land that has remained unexplored for a long time. According to legend, free Indian tribes reside there, and danger awaits any white person who dares to intrude on their lands… But can Tomek retreat when the lives of his loved ones are at stake?

Before you is a new translation of the eighth novel in this series — "Tomek in Gran Chaco," which has been supplemented with interesting and informative popular science notes. The wonderful illustrations for the book were created by artist Vladimir Kanivets.
